Y-POP

(ew okay lame joke)
The latest on what’s peeving AKF’s pet. Too many key-smashers, so little time.
TRIGGER WARNING: female objectification, bigotry against sexuality, and mentions of body weight
1) “‘Dream Team 2’ gets slammed for licentious content” (Allkpop)
So apparently, womanly curves are now being deemed as “licentious”.
Okay, you can’t deny — there are quite a bit of boobs here. But to assert that it’s “suggestive”? Really?! The only thing “suggestive” about this entire issue is if the viewers are finding it difficult to keep their pants on. And that’s their fault, not the idols’. Besides, it’s not like it’s something you wouldn’t see during a typical day on the beach.
(What’s more, to minimize all the entertainment you’ve just seen to merely, well, boobs and ass, is objectifying. They come with faces too, ya know).
Oh, and kudos to Nate (the original source) once again for injecting their writing with misleading information. Looking at the screencaps alone is misleads the reader, and to compound it with such information as the following makes it seem more intense than it actually was.
The scenes in question would be repeated on end, and cameras would even zoom up to specific body parts, providing one-shots to the celebrities with the best bodies.
“Repeated on end”? Not exactly. “Zoom up to specific body parts”? You mean their faces? Honestly, I didn’t see any of this while watching. Even though I was expecting it, I didn’t see it.
2) ”HyunA revealed to weigh 39kg during her ‘Bubble Pop!’ promotions” (Allkpop)
I knew there was something different about HyunA nowadays. I figured she must’ve lost her baby fat, but 39kg?! That seriously can’t be healthy, especially at her age and height (164cm). My check-in luggage weighs more than that, seriously.
I hope she gains some weight, because any more lost and she could land herself in the hospital, especially with her next round of promotions coming up.
And just in case some of you are out of the loop, HyunA’s ‘Bubble Pop!’ promotions have been abruptly cancelled due to it being, surprise surprise, too “sexually suggestive”.
Regarding the matter, her agency stated:
I wish they had viewed the performances as just performances. K-Pop is quickly trending around the world and this, along with the limits to its genre, may lead to restrictions in freedom of expression.
I feel you, Cube.
It’s also being announced that the three major public music programs “will be exchanging opinions with broadcast representatives regarding [matters of “sexually provocative material”]” on August 10th. I can’t wait to see what gets said.
3) “KBS receives harsh criticisms for airing Korea’s first lesbian drama” (Allkpop)
I have to say, despite the crap KBS is going through with the whole JYJ/SNSD & f(x) thing, they scored some serious points in my book for the following statement against the backlash:
There are LGBT persons around us. Just because a drama is LGBT-themed does not mean that it’s meant to purposely be stimulating, yet people still view it through those lenses. Because KBS is a public broadcasting network, there remains obstacles on airing dramas of such content. Still, we hope that people will view the drama for what it is: a drama.
Those complaining are wrong and just plain stupid. I mean, I see no validation in their arguments. Absolutely none.
“This will negatively influence the youth.”
“This drama is a crime against humanity.”
Dear god, someone hold me, please.
